Danny the Cat composing Carmen

So this week is probably the best week i have had for a long time. We had to choose between 5 classical music pieces and make Danny the Cat to compose it. He is really fun to draw! I finally found a workflow that works for me with a lot of scribbling that i learned from last week. Probably my best animation so far.

Walk Cycles with the Pink Panther and Alberto Campus!

So we had Alberto Campus for one week and 2 days doing walk cycles. In his classes we were really introduced to scribbling which is really fun!

Here is the the result of the first 2 days were we did a regular walk cycle

After that we did a walk with attitude. I chose sneaky and made a video reference which i tried to follow. Learned a lot on how to use reference and the power of scribbles.

Photoshop course and sketchbook updates

For two days we learned about the basic photoshop tools. The assignment was to create a monster in its natural environment in a scene from a movie.
Had lots of fun with this one! Meet the face-eater, a monster who just wants to be a human so it steals faces and dress up like a beauty queen
Here is the first sketch:
And here is my final drawing. I wanted her to go out for walk to show off her new fancy hat

Here is the result for 2 days of colouring. It still in a OBVIOULSY work in progress but it got the overall mood and feel that i wanted, sort of. It was really fun!
As a bonus, here are some of my sketchbook drawings!

Magic with Mickey

So I have been busy the last couple of weeks. The first two weeks was Drawing for Animation, which is about the process behind animation, doing history keys and later ad frames.
This have been the most awarding week for me, it changed my perspective in my workflow and make it way more enjoyable.
The theme was Mickey being all serious, casting a spell, fails and get disappointed.
I inbetweened a little bit in our inbetweening class, but not much.

Secret of the Celts inbetweening

So we had a week learning inbetweening. This one is Aisling from Secret of the Celts.

Design with Lawrence Marvit

This week was amazing! We had a though but most excellent teacher, teaching us not only design but to appreciate and learn from anything we find. I learned so much and made so many mistakes and errors and i couldn't be more happy.
The assignment is bit abstract but its all about making people feel something with lines and shapes.

1st day: Boxes!
Make 3 rectangles and a line. They must not touch each other or the edges and they have to make a dynamic composition, meaning chaotic and no order at all.

2nd day: Chocolate!
Best homework ever! We got some dark chocolate and we had to describe it with lines.

3rd day: Jazz
Now we had to feel the jazz! We had to listen to Miles Davis's album "Kind of Blue" and use shapes to describe it.

4th and 5th day: Hamlet
We had to illustrate a scene from hamlet. The dead king returns from the dead for revenge and meet the guards! More freedom = more problems but it was the best one i did the whole week.

Floursack

Late update coming up!

So this was our last week of basic animation! The assignment was to animate the flour sack story from a storyboard. We had to precise with the frames and timing which we are not used to and it really gave it a whole new perspective. Its also the longest animation I have done yet.

I'm not too proud of the result but this was what i could do with the time and experience i had at the time. Its not fully inbetweened and i had to redo a lot of scenes, because i was experimenting so much. I learned a lot and i think i accidently also had some fun with it.

Rework Pendulum

I adjusted the pendulum! Sort of...

Week 2: More basic animation!

Here is another pile of animation from this week. The balls a getting alive and a tail, and I'm slowly getting the hang of it. Again, there is a lot of mistakes but its a learning process

Tail on a ball:
We gave our light ball a foxy tail and this time we had to do it straight ahead instead of pose to pose (meaning we had to improvise for each frame at a time instead of planning it like we did on the ball assignments)

Attitude on a ball:
This one i was really fond of. We finally get to do some acting and with no face or limbs to express us with, we got ourselves a neat challenge. We got a either happy, sad or angry to play with and 2 days. This took all my time and energy but it pays!

Gerald head turn:
Same moods but with a characters head turn. After the ball I was really worn out so this is not my proudest work. I tried experimenting a lot but it didnt work so I kept it at its basic core. I didnt have the time or the energy to correcting into the model.

Breaking the joints - hitting a table:

I really liked this assignment and had a lot fun with it. I think i pretty much nailed what i wanted even though the ending should apparently be a bit different. The things in your mind dont necessarily agree with others mind or the real world so gotta do more proper research before deciding.

Next week is the last week of basic animation and its with the traditional flour sack! Looking forward to it!

Week 1: Basic animation

My first week of basic animation! It was quite fun and simple and gives a good idea what to expect from the work progress  I really wanna fix some of the mistake i made in these but I have been really busy. I may come back to this and fix it if my schedule allows it.

Pendulum:
Bouncing ball:
Heavy ball:
Light ball
Seaweed (meant to be looped)

A peak into my sketchbook

Here is some of my newer sketches I made in the last couple of weeks. Some of it is concept art for our short film while the rest was made doing pipeline time or lectures. Enjoy!

Short movie crab

My first project in my CA education in The Animation Workshop. We had 2 weeks to make a 30 sec short film from a 30 min podcast (the Moth)  audioclip. In my fantastic group of 5 wonderful people we clipped and stiched the sound-clip into this thrilling story about a lonely man in a mysterious island.
I animated the first scene with the protagenist and worked across the board to complete it. Flash crashed and we lost a lot of important files (including most of my animation) which is why
it seems a bit clunky but it still works great.

Portfolio and stuff

If you are curious on how i got in to TAW I have my portfolio right here along with a 3 year older portfolio.
